As of yesterday, I have officially lived in Virginia for 8 YEARS. 8 YEARS friends!! That is so crazy insane to me! Some days it feels like I’ve lived here my entire life, and other days I feel like I just moved here last week. When I looked at the year and counted back, I was floored that it’s been 8 years because it sure does not feel like it! 8 years of summer humidity. Yikes. Choosing to have my baby in said summer humidity. Double yikes. 😉 Just kidding. I don’t care what the weather is like, I can’t WAIT FOR JULY!!
I was going to do a “Big List Update” blog post last week, but then realized that, overall, we have made very little progress on our list, so it’s not really worth the update. Now that little progress is not for the lack of work. Ben was home for a total of 2 Saturdays the entire month of May, and worked SO VERY HARD on that darn bathroom! It’s just one of those things where nothing seems to go as planned. But the fantastic news is that WE HAVE A TOILET!!! YAY!!!! Haha. 32 nights of going downstairs in the middle of the night, clutching that railing like my life depended on it (I did not want to trip down the stairs!), all to go to the bathroom, are over! And I could not be more thankful! Towards the end I just started crashing downstairs on the couch. I was just so tired that the thought of dragging myself back upstairs was enough to make me rather sleep on our wood floors. So, Ben worked tirelessly while I was at my wedding a couple of weekends ago, and got the floor and toilet in! There is still a long ways to go, but goodness gracious am I thankful to have that toilet back! And so, VERY proud of all the work he has poured into this room. Nothing has gone as planned, but he keeps plugging away. Other than that, there really isn’t much to update on the list side of things! I have some big plans for June (more in the decorating side of things), so we’ll see how that goes! Onto other KAPtivations from May!!
(1) New sister!!! It’s always funny to me how an event can “officially” make someone part of your family, especially since I’ve thought of Jessie as my new sister for the past year! But Josh (Ben’s brother) and Jessie made it official in May with their gorgeous Charlottesville wedding! That weekend was an absolute blast and I’m looking forward to the years ahead with these two! (Picture lovingly borrowed from my other sister-in-law Sherri!)
(2) New niece!!! May was just a “growing family” sort of month! My brother and sister-in-law had their first baby a couple of weeks ago, and it’s KILLING me that they live in Colorado and we haven’t been able to meet her yet! (And that I can’t take pictures of this gorgeous, sweet little family). But we are so very excited to welcome a new little niece! Ben and I have all nieces right now, so Spark is going to be surrounded by little girl cousins. We are all flying out to California in August (yes, we’re going to be crazy and fly across country with a newborn), so we can’t WAIT to meet Avery and introduce her and Spark! (Picture lovingly borrowed from my sister-in-law Mandy!)
(3) Starbucks in the store – This one is totally anticlimactic after the above two, but still fun in my little world.I love coffee, but pregnancy has turned me off from it. Even the smell can make me nauseous, so coffee drinking came to an abrupt end last fall. However, with insomnia and restless nights creeping in, I’m finding that there are some days where I just HAVE to have caffeine to survive. I can do Starbucks froofy drinks, but that adds up really fast! I was shopping at Target the other day and stumbled across this…caramel macchiato in a carton! Friends, it is SO GOOD! And the price of the carton is the same price as a single caramel macchiato from Starbucks! Win-win.
(4) Birthing classes – (No picture for this one) – After all of my research and talking with friends, Ben and I decided that we wanted a natural birth (barring any emergencies of course). I have been very interested in the Bradley Method classes, and for Ben to become my partner during my birth, rather than just the father holding my hand. I wanted him to know what was going on, what to expect, and what my thoughts and ideas and hopes for birth were. We weren’t able to find Bradley Method classes that fit our schedules, but I stumbled across “A Brighter Birth” on our hospital’s website and started chatting with Melanie. It’s a 6 week class (we have 1 week left!), and WOW have we learned so much!! It’s been FANTASTIC and I highly recommend these classes to any pregnant friends in Richmond who are interested in a natural, intervention free birth! AND one of my 2013 brides is in our class too! Totally unexpected but really fun!
I hit 33 weeks last Wednesday, and can’t believe it’s getting so close! Spark has been so.very.active these past few days, it’s hard to sit for a long period of time! (No complaints though, I love feeling him move around). However, this month has been painful as my bones and ligaments aren’t cooperating fully well and I am struggling with PSD (pubic symphisis dysfunction…feel free to google). It is horribly painful to walk at times, and lifting a leg is almost unheard of (you should see me try to put on pants!). However, Melanie (our birthing class instructor) recommended a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy and she has done wonders!! I still hurt, but it’s actually bearable now and I am so, so thankful!
We are still no closer to having a name picked out. I had found one a few weeks ago that grew on me and I began to love. I had mentioned it to Ben and he seemed accepting of it, so in my head, I started calling Spark by that name. Well, turns out, Ben actually strongly dislikes that name (ha!), soooo we’re back to square one, since I strongly dislike his top choice!
And just a friendly little note to my pregnant friends…eating 2 pieces of pizza for lunch right before a doctor’s appointment where they weigh you probably isn’t the best idea in the world…pizza sits heavy. 😉 Just sayin’!
